In one of this specialist hospital's surgical wards, children can now "chat" freely with their friends, school and other outside contacts via laptops connected to the internet. The computer centre makes life easier for the children and brings friends and school closer to those admitted to the hospital as in-patients and are maybe confined to bed. Family members visiting the children are also able to use this much-requested communication facility.

"The project has a natural link with Tamro's activities when it comes to communication and IT competence. It fits in well with the values we aspire to in our company. Being able to help improve the quality of these children's lives and their well-being gives us a lot of satisfaction," says Tamro's MD Hans Wahlén.

The now complete distribution centre achieves top quality from the storage areas and flows through to the cold stores and security. There are now separate storage areas for destruction, inspection and EU quarantined goods. The walls are reinforced with tank plate and new, advanced technology, and fast and adaptable high bay stackers cranes ensure optimum efficiency. New and long-term thinking is clearly the main consideration. The new building is vast and has extended the area by 7,000 sq.m.

Mats Bergman from the Swedish Competition Authority spoke about experiences of past deregulation. Apoteket's Stefan Carlsson gave us his view of the challenges of what he termed the 'reregulation' of the pharmacy's monopoly (rather than deregulation). And Hans Fornwall gave us new energy in a light-hearted, but pertinent talk on people's attitude to change, or to be more precise, reluctance to change.

It was an intensive and highly successful day, involving much laughter and mutual understanding towards other people's thinking, and which drew almost 200 participants to peaceful Yasuragi Hasseludden in mid-November. With journalist Britt-Marie Mattsson as moderator, the microphone moved at a lively pace among the participants sitting at the round tables in the assembly hall. Views were exchanged and dialogue was clearly on agenda of the various players in the industry.

A mobile computer works like an Internet café. The difference is that the computer is wheeled in and hooked up to the Internet from the hospital bed.

This gives sick children and their families a better chance of staying in contact and communicating with relatives, school and friends during their stay in hospital. You can find out more information about the hospital and the foundation's work at www.barnsjukhuset.nu.

The working environment has received excellent reports and communication distances have now been minimised, one of the benefits being better service for our customers.

On the logistics side, the first two of the five high bay cranes have been replaced by new and faster cranes. The plan is to replace all cranes by the end of November. The first section of a new goods inwards rail and new control system for the technical equipment have also been installed, which further increases capacity and facilitates more efficient flows through the plant. In December, the last piece of the puzzle, a new pallet picking station should be in place.

Karin comes to us from VM-data, where she worked for eight years, the last six years as development manager of business systems.

At Tamro, Karin's duties will include responsibility for development and installation of adapted subsystems in the Nordic region and Baltic states.

At the end of August, a 'renewal' audit was conducted of both our quality and environmental management systems, both of which passed with distinction!

The auditors carefully inspected the company's policies, objectives, procedures and action plans. After a review and discussions about further opportunities for improvement, a new certificate was issued for the next three years.

The following is an extract from the auditors' report:
"The company links its objectives and action plans which support the business plan together well. There is good focus on management development and businessmanship, e.g. skills development. The work on updating and improving the system is good. There is a high level of competence and good commitment in the company".

Johan is an educated sea captain with a background in logistics. Johan has worked in the field of logistics and development for a number of different organisations, most recently as managing director at Holship Sverige AB. Johan Mossberg assumed his position as the new branch manager on June 13th, 2006.

Mats' principal duty will be to reinforce the consolidation and coordination of Tamro's IT solution in close collaboration with the various Tamro business units and the Phoenix Group.

Magnus Peterson, former IT development manager has been appointed the new head of IT at Tamro AB. Magnus has a Masters degree in physics from Lund University and joined Tamro AB in 2003 as head of development for distribution systems.

This is a new service developed by Tamro in response to the rising number of county councils choosing to purchase diabetic aids and other state-aided products not categorised as pharmaceutical products directly from the manufacturers. In the quest to keep costs down, alternative methods of distribution are also being tried out by the county councils.

The diabetic aids are being sent directly to patients on behalf of Stockholm County Council from Tamro's distribution centre in Umeå, where nationwide distribution of pharmaceutical samples already is handled.

The new functional and flexible premises were ready for use in mid December.

In addition to all activities now being gathered in one partitioned area, the new facilities creates increased capacity to meet growing marketdemands and allows greater freedom of action for the production of pharmaceuticals.

Under the title "Temperature Measuring in Pharmaceutical Transports - a Given", Our Transport Operations Manager, Anna Hallgren, will give a presentation on the importance of measuring and monitoring pharmaceutical transports and Tamro's procedures for developing and introducing an efficient temperature measurement method for pharmaceutical transports.

Anna's presentation is one of the items included in the programme for the L3:08 seminar entitled "Can You Manage Tempered Transports?" and will take place on 11 May between 2 and 5 pm.
