To import or export narcotics, there is an extensive set of regulations to consider. The Swedish Medical Products Agency issues permits in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs Control Act. These permits come with a number of conditions, often including requirements for quarterly and/or annual reporting of the handling.

Businesses wishing to import and/or export narcotics need a basic permit and usually a permit for each individual shipment. A copy of the export permit must accompany the narcotics during transport. Once the shipment has been received or sent, the quantity imported or exported must be confirmed to the Swedish Medical Products Agency.
